THE NICE BITS OF BEING HOME:

  • Seeing my closest childhood friends and having ridiculous late-night talks in front of “our” Starbucks.
  • Driving down to eat Cha Cha Chicken on the beach with two of my favorite people.
  • Hanging out with My Old Man, who is indeed getting quite old.
  • Spending time doing errands with my Lola, who is as spry as ever.
  • Finally seeing my best friend for the first time in a year and having our usual reassuring long talks and driving around aimlessly.
  • Hanging out with my cousins and doing “stupid things” and having serious conversations about life and relationships.
  • The Getty Museum, which I will finally be going to on Saturday.
  • Revisiting old haunts.

The not-so-nice bits:

  • It is usually over 100º where I live. Jesus Christ in a waffle cone. I cannot deal with it. My only consolation is that it isn’t humid here.
  • Kind of missing Seattle.

SUCCESS.

Good things that have happened in the last few days:

  • I went shopping at the Asian market with my parents and Lola.
  • My family finally bought our Christmas tree.
  • I finally worked up the nerve to chop off my hair. Now I need only a drop and a half of shampoo and conditioner. Woo!
  • I had a lovely reunion dinner with my friends.
  • I am working at my brother’s office and babysitting for the next few days (and getting paid). I might get my bike after all!
  • I will begin all my Christmas baking very soon.
  • Grades were finally posted today and I apparently walked out of easily the most stressful quarter thus far with A’s. Fuck yes.

Annoying things that have happened in the last few days:

  • Parental guilt
  • Blargblargblarg
  • Traffic on the 10 and 405 at TEN THIRTY in the evening. FOOKERY.

my favorite month of the year is finally here.

In southern California, November is when it actually starts feeling like autumn. Here in Washington, the leaves have been falling and changing colors since last month at least. I see a lot of grey mornings in my future.

But really, aside from it being autumn, November is my favorite month because it feels like writing weather.

fuh.

Three weeks in Seattle and I haven’t felt homesick at all.

Called my Lola just to say hello.

Five minute conversation.

Completely break down after hanging up.

We Californians are a strange breed. We still wear our sunglasses and put down our convertible tops when it is overcast outside. Intelligence.
